Matildas 2008 'B' Matches

Matildas 'B' Internationals for 2008

Written by Thomas Esamie.

As part of the Matildas tour of the USA this match against the Railhawks was organised in between the 2 games agianst the US national side. I'm not sure it was ever played given the weather conditions of the first US match might have made the ground difficult to play on. This was a Friendly match.

Prior to the match, both teams agreed to play a novel match format consisting of four, thirty minute quarters, with full interchange and penalty shoot-outs at the end of the second and fourth quarters. Due to these modifications this fixture was not considered to be an A-international. China won both shootouts 4-3 and 4-2 respectively. This was a Friendly match.

Australia's U20 team played a series of matches against their Chinese counterparts but one of the matches was not the U20's side, but it wasn't the Matildas either. It was called the "Promising Matildas" which, in the absence of advice to the contrary, was a youthful Matildas side in the tradition of the PM's XI for Cricketing tours.

Worse still it isn't clear who scored the 2 goals and who scored the one though most suggestions are it was Australia who prevailed.

You can see why this ended up in the "B" archive.

This was a Friendly match.
