Australia continued their preparations for the Asian Cup/World Cup Qualification by hosting North Korea. Lisa DeVanna managed to fall akwardly while challenging the keeper for a ball forward and turned her foot in totally the wrong direction resulting in a broken leg and ankle damage. It was much less excruciating to watch than bear... but the difference to me didn't seem like much. Nevertheless the result only served to sort out positions 1 and 2 in the group. This was a Asian Cup/World Cup Qualification match.

Australia's 2 opening wins were enough to ensure progression and it turns out the team in the way of Australia is Japan in the Semi-Final. Japan had gome through their group with 3 wins and 0 goals conceded, same thing happened to China. All told it is a bit rough to go out of the tournament with the one goal you did give up. This means one of Japan or China will miss out on the World Cup, given China's record in particular it is almost unthinkable they miss out. Good luck Japan ;-) This was a Asian Cup/World Cup Qualification match.

Australia, having already clinched the World Cup berth and then added the Asian championship to their belt. Played in torrential rain Australia's first half goal was cancelled out in the second by a glancing header and it was the same goal that hosted the penalties after extra time failed to find a winner although North Korea hit the bar. Having lost in the final 4 years ago Australia went one better and I'm certainly glad of that. In the playoff for third Japan did indeed prevent former world cup winners China from emulating that feat in Germany next year. This was a Asian Cup/World Cup Qualification match.

The final match was between the two group winners... and when I say "winners"... the other group containing South Korea, England and New Zealand played out three 0-0 draws which meant that the drawing of lots decided the Australian opponent. Looks like home ground could be an advantage in this process... This was a Peace Queen Cup match.
