| On Friday January 30 1981, a challenge trophy match was organised between the NSL competition winners and the NSL Cup winners, Marconi-Fairfield and Sydney City. The match was designed similar to the English Charity shield with the winner taking the trophy for the season. In pouring rain a disappointing crowd turned out to see the Sydney 'Slickers' take the game 1-0 in extra time. | ||||
