| On Wednesday June 4th 1997, an interesting match took place on the Gold Coast. The New Zealand national side played a one-off friendly match against a Gold Coast representative side. The All Whites were on their way up to Port Moresby for a World Cup qualifier and were using the game as an oppurtunity to gain some practise against some reasonable opposition. Unfortunately for the crowd the game was a little dour and saw no goals scored in an easily fogettable contest. The Gold Coast side featured Gary Philips from the Brisbane Strikers as a guest player. New Zealand went on to lose the Papua New Guinea game 1-0. | ||||
