Breakers v Wolves

Round 2 report by Stephen Webb
Newcastle Breakers v Wollongong City

Tend to agree that Newcastle should be grateful for a draw, even though Wolves "came from behind".

The Wolves players couldn't believe it when Newcastle scored their second. They had looked intent on taking control in the second half. And, despite a couple of good Newcastle chances, did just that. They tried Horsley too much on the right. He was well contained. Although some Breakers fans were taking the piss out of Harper early on, he had a surprisingly good game. Got his big head in the action at least once too often. His size was too much, too, for Souris who had to be replaced by Cervinski in the second half. He did the job but, worringly, it seemed Harper was faster than him!

I thought Surjan was doing okay spreading the ball around but Reid's aggression when he replaced him really put Newcastle under pressure. The Breakers' skipper must have been their first half hero, with a goal and a very important tackle. The old fella between the posts had to get in the way several times and actually made a couple of pretty good saves as well. Mongrel.

Good crowd. Facilities not up to it, though. Visitors be warned. Eat before- hand. And something needs to be done to warn people that if they buy tickets for the main stand and are told that they can't sit in the reserved seats that 90 per cent of that stand is reserved and most seats that aren't are in the bottom row where the view is obscured by the rail. I wasn't near the Rowdy end but it seemed a lot of the mob were sceptical/reticent. Probably could have done with the win to get its confidence up. Good luck from here on. Except for the return match. Of course.
