Yes, even some of us doubters here were stunned. However I have to point out that the Kingz wanted the win more than Souths. Coveny wasn't in it and Trimboli and Blatsis were subbed off.
The score should have been 3-0 to the Kingz but for woeful finishing. Kingz scorer Aaron Silva took a great through ball from Fred de Jong in the 35th minute, rounding the keeper and slotting a well taken goal. He was yellow-carded for his scoring celebrations.
Evidently the booking was for leaving the field of play without the refs permission, in which case the ref, Mark Shield from Brisbane, should have booked 7 or 8 other Kingz players who jumped the advertising hoardings to join in the celebrations in front of the main stand.
Kingz had 8 corners to Souths 1 in the first half, evidence of who did the majority of attacking.
It was party mode following the final whistle and beers all round up in the Presidents lounge. South Melbourne didn't hang around. They hoped into their bus and went back to their accomodation at the Poenamo Hotel on the North Shore much to the irritation of a couple of Souths fans wanting to catch up with the team.
