No doubt Dave will write a more detailed report. For me, this was a game we threw away. The Spirit were appalling (rather worrying for a full-time professional squad)and The Strikers were generally all over them. We should have won this with plenty to spare but squandered a number of chances. However, I must say that at times we looked wonderful. The team was full of enthusiasm, the passing good and movement excellent.
It was, however, our crossing that let us down. As Cloughie once said, if god had wanted football to be played in the air, then the sky would have been grass. The ball spent far too much time up there and unfortunately one of our stalwarts, Nick Meredith, was the main culprit. We totally outclassed Spirit on the left-hand side but every cross was lofted high. This seems a legacy from Frank's days and should be addressed as soon as possible. Only once did we get the ball to the by-line, but even then it was lofted high. Otherwise it was always a hopeful punt across the face of the goal. Every time it was easy for a defender to clear the ball.
Our goals looked a bit scrappy, from where we were sitting, but they all count. It was the goal we gave away at the death that really annoyed me. It looked like a speculative shot from about 25 yards (no doubt TV will prove me wrong) that Bolton should have dealt with easily. Needless to say he didn't. I really find Clint Bolton an enigma. At times he is excellent yet we can always guarantee at least one major blunder per game. Once again it cost us a goal, and this time two points. Looking on the bright side - we're still undefeated and Dave M will know why I'm feeling particularly good this Sunday morning :-) [Note: John is a Tottenham supporter]
