Souths v Wolves

Round 15 report by Kevin Christopher
South Melbourne v Wollongong

A very ordinary game highlighted by woeful refereeing. Both coaches were reluctant to discuss the performance of David Dwight in the middle, but the fact that one of the linesmen was Senko Rastocic might raise some eyebrows.

Some of you may remember this double-act stealing the show at the Carlton v Sydney Divided match at Olympic Park on December 10.

Anyway the final score finished 1-1.

And Nick Theo was quite pleased with a point, even if his side did concede an 86th minute equaliser. It was a epnalty converted by Michael Curcija, given, we suspect, for handball against David Cervinski, although he seemed to be trying to pull his arm OUT of the way. The Wolves had gone ahead via the penalty spot as well, Stuart Young converting after Clarkson was adjudged to have handled the ball. If these two incidents were penalties, there probably should have been about six penalties. And that is Ange's verdict - not ours.

A very average attendance, considering the weather was almost perfect. Maybe 3,000? Possibly 3,500. Most of 'em were fed up by the 70 minute mark, totally disillusioned by what they were witnessing. Trimmers played the full 90, but John Anas went off with a quad injury after 35.

Postecoglou used a 4-4-2, which looked okay against a pedestrian attack, but the general consensus on the terraces was that it is a bit late to be experimenting...
