Power v Marconi

Round 8 report by Fred Legget
Parramatta Power v Marconi-Fairfield

Before the start of the season, expectations were so low among many punters at Marconi, that they could be fitted quite comfortably, under a daschund.

However, as Lee Sterrey coached his side of largely inexperienced youngsters to play some skilful stuff, expectations rose accordingly.

So, there were a few disappointed people at Parra Stadium last night, when for the second week in a row, the Stallions dominated long stretches of open play, only to surrender all the points due to a 75th minute goal.

Marconi's failing is in front of goal - there were enough chances for them to have won three or four games, but we just couldn't get the ball in the net, and unless we play the Kingz every week, I'm not sure how we can change that.

It was a very balmy evening, and indeed the first visit to watch Power that it has not rained at.

I don't like the place.

Quite apart form the scary mascot, that some 4 year olds must have nightmares about that is.

The food (so I'm told)is overpriced and bloody beer costs $4-50!!!!

Not only that, but one bottle of beer had exceeded the recommended "best before date" by several months, so God knows how long the hot dogs have been in the fridge for!

I intend to pursue this matter with the brewery incidentally...about the beer that is..don't really care about non essentials like food.

Another grating thing about the visit was their female equivalent of Tim Bailey who, during the pre match 'entertainment' just kept rabbiting on, ad nauseaum.

During a pre match 'game' between two sides, both, presumably for total confusion, kitted out in white, representing 2ws and C7 she thought it necessary to indulge in a running commentary, complete with standard "Oh its a penalty to the radio roos" when in fact it was free a kick on the half way line."

enough said about her I guess, (although it must be said that her physical presence was appealing)... but why do they persist with such football morons..at football games?

Met up with Andre and had a couple of beers and a chat before we parted at the final whistle...GKW *was* spotted near the ground but decided not to join the rest of the Marconi throng..presumably there was free beer involved.

I dunno, I just get the impression every time I go there to watch Power that there is no 'football soul' there, and every time may well end up being the last....

Still, they got the points and we didn't, so I don't suppose they'll be at all bothered about soul today...
