1994-95 Season Round 12 Matches

Round 12 of the Australian NSL championship (games played 4-8/1)

Adelaide City 3	-	Wollongong City 1
(John Gibson 16) (Vaughan Coveny 9)
(Damien Mori 57, 81)

AC : Petkovic, Ivanovic, Tobin, Vidmar, Yates, J Gibson (Goutzioulis 85),
     Talladira, Mullen, Foster, Hassell, Mori

WC : Hughes, Murray, Bourke, O'Shea, Dimoski, Cellini, Bonetig (Middleby 71),
Horsley, Dihm, A Cervinski (Akers 27), Coveny

[Adrian Cervinsky suffered an injury in this game, I'm not sure how serious
but it has ruled him out of at least the opening game of the Olympic
tournament involving Denmark, Japan and South Korea. Other than that it seems
Ad City are keen to make amends for their poor game in Brisbane.]

Sydney Olympic 0	-	Brisbane Strikers	0
(Brisbane win 3-1 on penalties)

SO : Gibson, Spyridakos (Lee 18), Barrett, Juric, Sorras, Meredith, Maloney,
Tsekenis, Milosevic, Tome (Poimer 79), Bacak

BS : Bolton, Jackson, Hunter, Stowell, Zorichic, Evans (Slater 64), Phillips,
Wright, S Cranney, Brown, T Cranney

[Clint Bolton again showed superb skills in the shootout to give Brisbane
the extra point, ensuring his selection as top Olympic keeper and with the
imminent departure of Kalac to Norwich he is now being considered as keeper
against Colombia in the Socceroo side. Colombia will play in Brisbane and
Sydney in February against Australian based players.]

Heidelberg United	0	-	Sydney United 3
					(Manis Lamond 12, 60)
					(Zeljko Babic 82)

HU : Miller, Koutos, Scott, Iosifidis, Georgiadis, Tsolakis, Ardone, MacNicol,
Vasiliadis (Despotovski 75), Vlahos (Nedelkovic 76), Gnjidic

SU : Kalac, Stanton, Kupresak, M Babic, Bilokapic, Naumovski (Rudan 53),
Popovic, Hristodoulou, Petkovic, Lamond, Zdrilic (Z Babic 73)

[I keep thinking that Kalac has played his last game for United before moving
on to Norwich to replace Brian Gunn and that inept back up they have. Yet
the obtaining of a work permit is proving troublesome. Interesting also that
Mark Bosnich came from United and whoever they use as goalkeeping coach must
 be pretty damn pleased.]

Marconi-Fairfield	2	-	Melbourne Knights	3
(Matthew Bingley 14) (Josip Biskic 9)
(Angelo Colombo 18) (Mark Viduka 44, 77)

MF : Pogliacomi, Smith, Holst, Casserly, Gray (Soper 46 (sent off 50)),
Harper, Colombo (Taliadoros 68), DeMarigny, Bingley, Corica, Iocca

MK : Juric, Horvat, De Amicis, Marth, Buljubasic, Silic, Biskic (sent off 16),
Lapsansky, Tiatto, Spiteri (Pondeljak 49), Viduka

[Former Scottish Premier League referee Eddie Lennie had a busy night and
sent off Biskic for persistent dissent after an altercation with Jean-Paul
deMarigny and Marshall Soper for a second yellow card in four minutes.
All the same Marconi were guilty of losing the game, defensive errors were
graciously accepted by Viduka. Bingley's goal was notable for the sheer
beauty of the shot from a tight angle launched into the inside of the far
post, the effect was van Bastenesque.]

Melbourne SC 0	-	South Melbourne 6
					(Con Boutsianis 8, 11)
					(Jason Polak 15)
					(Paul Della Rocca 46 og)
					(Ivan Kelic 80)
					(Paul Trimboli 92)

MZ : Kourtis, Jolevski, Della Rocca, Banini, Enes (Androulidakis 68),
Tombolato, Karkaletsis, Emmanuelle (Ngata 45), Zinni, Lazarevski,
     Tricarico

SM : Mautone, Davidson, Valkanis, Kuzmanovic, Muscat, Boutsianis, Polak,
Petersen (Lucchetta 80), Awaritefe (Wade 75), Kelic, Trimboli

[Well I'm not entirely sure if Melbourne SC suck that bad or if Souths
are putting together a surge into the top six to get into a playoff
position. Of course it all depends on who you talk to, me I'm waiting for
 next week :-).]

Morwell Falcons 0	-	Parramatta Eagles	2
					(Geoff Gunning 26, 82)

MF : Dastey, Douglas (sent off 81), Upton, Canosa, Parton, Sevin, Marcina,
Ferreira (Markovski 63), Bothwell, Spink, Armstrong

PE : Franken, Orlic, Renaud, P Souris, Gwynne (Revely 84), Ciantar, Mendez,
Moffitt, Reda, Gunning, Brayshaw (Haythornthwaite 69)

[You hear it all the time but the Falcons were unlucky. Portuguese import
Pablo Ferreira was hauled down by Brayshaw only to have the penalty declined
and then be booked for diving. Then 9 minutes from the end, and hopes of
yet another penalty shootout still alive the referee Rob Davis booked
Steve Douglas and then pulled out the red for what must have been a
tasteless rebuke. Geoff Gunning almost immediately converted a cross to
 put the game beyond doubt.]
