1994-95 Season Round 22 Matches

Round 22 of the Australian NSL championship (games played 10-12/3/1995)

Sydney Olympic 1	-	South Melbourne 0
(Norman Tome 77)

SO : Bouhoutsos, Barrett, Juric, Sorras, Meredith, Milosevic, Maloney,
Caleta (Augerinos 24), Tome, Johnson (Tsekenis 77), Poimer

SM : Mautone, Kuzmanovic, Panopoulos, Lucchetta, Valkanis, Anthopoulos,
Polak, Petersen, Boutsianis (Mangos 33), Kelic, Trimboli (Mihaloglou 44)

[Norman Tome, by no means a tall player headed in the lone goal in this
match which was played in heavy winds. So Souths falter in their rush for
the top 6 and Paul Trimboli will be out for 3 weeks after colliding with,
and cutting his knee on, an A-frame sign near the sideline. There was added
spice in the match as former Olympic player Ivan Kelic was the centre of
a transfer fee dispute which threatened his appearance in this game.]

Melbourne SC 0	-	West Adelaide 0
(West Adelaide wins 4-2 on penalties)

MZ : Kourtis, Kuleski, Banini, Jolevski, Della Rocca, Ngata, Enes,
Trajkovski (Karkaletsis 49), Trajcevski, Zinni, Tricarico (Lazarevski 83)

WA : Blazincic, Haniotis, Hooker, Lazaridis, Slifkas, Kokkinoplitis, Aloisi,
Andrioli, Tsekenis (Cardozo 63), Alagich, Ndongo-Keller

[Melbourne blew their first two shots in the shootout and thus condemned
themselves to also ran status while the Sharks consolidated a top 6 spot.]

Adelaide City 3	-	Marconi-Fairfield	1
(Joe Mullen 33) (Steve Corica 75)
(Damien Mori 44, 45)

AC : Petkovic, Ivanovic, Melta, Tobin, Vidmar, Lozanovski (Goutzioulis 52),
Talladira, Mullen (Gibson 46), Hassell, Foster, Mori

MF : Catlin, Bingley, Gray, Holst (Ortiz 46), Casserly, Talay, van Egmond,
Harper (Harris 54), Iocca, Corica, Taliadoros

[Mullen forced the ball over the line from a Lozanovski cross and then City
followed up with two quick goals by Damien Mori who headed the first and
rammed home the second to seal the win by half-time. To their credit Marconi
tried hard but the difference in the attitudes of the teams showed through
in the flow of the game. It took a rare mistake from Milan Ivanovic to give
Steve Corica the chance to make the score look better, Steve might have made
it two had it not been for some Petkovic acrobatics.]

Sydney United 1	-	Parramatta Eagles	0
(Velemir Kupresak 64)

SU : Kalac, Popovic, Stanton, Kupresak, M Babic, Bilokapic (S Babic 63),
Naumovski, Hristodoulou, Moric, Milicic, Lamond (Petkovic 83)

PE : Franken, P Souris, O'Donnell, Orlic, Moffitt, Sprod, Gwynne, Ciantar,
     Brayshaw (Harding 69), Gilbert, Gunning

[No Reda + No Mendez = defend, defend, defend. The Eagles managed to keep
out the modest attack of the Crows but failed to consider the threat from
the veteran Kupresak who headed home a Hristodoulou corner.]

Heidelberg United	4	-	Wollongong City 3
(Robert Despotovski 5, 75) (Vaughan Coveny 1)
(Peter Tsolakis 17, 55) (Mineo Bonetig 67, 81)

HU : Miller, Scott, Karapatsos, Tsoumerakas, Koutos, Georgiadis, MacNicol,
Wade, Tsolakis, Despotovski (Ardone 87), Vlahos (Psarros 81)

WC : Hughes, Murray (A Cervinski 63), Bourke, O'Shea, Dihm, Horsley, Coveny,
Cellini (Bonetig 35), Middleby, A Cervinski, Ricoy

[A 30m free kick got the Wolves off to a brilliant start, to their credit
the Bergers pulled the score back and when Brett Hughes and Matthew Dihm
collided and allowed Despotovski the Bergers 4th the game was effectively
over. Bonetig did his level best to keep City in the hunt but time came
too early for the game to turn.]

Morwell Falcons 5	-	Brisbane Strikers	1
(John Markovski 14, 32) (Rod Brown 82)
(Carlo Villani 55)
(Sonny Sevin 60)
(John Waddell 70 pk)

MF : Matassa, Douglas, Parton, Miller, Marcina, Tapai, Stergiopoulos,
Bothwell (sent off 21), Sevin, Spink (Waddell 59), Markovski (Villani 44)

BS : Bolton, Stowell (Hutchison 61), Williams, Hunter, Evans, Zoricich,
Ditton, Phillips (off 21, Hews 32), S Cranney, Slater, Brown

[The Falcons lost their coach Bobby McLachlan during the week because he
felt that the players had become too complacent and thought only a change
in coaching would remedy the situation, his assistant Harry Bingham has taken
over for the rest of the season. The Falcons promptly put 5 past the
Strikers eventhough they played with 10 men for over an hour. The tragedy
is that BFJ Markovski tore his achilles tendon and will probably miss the
rest of the season. His striking partner was sent off after he lashed out with
an elbow after his shirt was tugged back, can anyone say Leonardo? Phillips
was seriously hurt (a possible broken nose) and after 11 minutes of off field
 treatment was replaced.]
