1994-95 Season Round 24 Matches

Round 24 of the Australian NSL championship (games played 24-26/3/1995)

Sydney Olympic 3	-	Melbourne Knights	2
(Norman Tome 35, 61, 74) (Joe Spiteri 77)
					(Mark Viduka 81 pk)

SO : Gibson, Ante Juric, Sorras, Meredith, Barrett, Augerinos (Tsekenis 84),
Maloney, Milosevic, Johnson (Bacak 86), Poimer, Tome

MK : Frank Juric, Horvat, De Amicis, Z Markovski, D Cervinski, Silic, Tiatto,
Marucic, Lapsansky, Pondeljak (Spiteri 46), Viduka

[Geoff Harcombes hard fitness regime seems to be paying dividends as Olympic
ran at the Knights all night and scored an unbelievable double over the
league frontrunners. The Knights new import Kresimir Marucic seems to still
be finding his feet in the new league but this was not the Knights downfall.
Tome steered a cross in towards goal and then shocked the Knights when a
cross fell at his feet and poked the ball home. A through ball by Augerinos
was slotted past Juris for Tome's hat-trick and sent the Olympic fans into
delirium. Spiteri was allowed to peg the lead back with a low drive from a
tight angle and a soft penalty decision for Marucic resulted in Viduka's 18th
 league goal.]

Marconi-Fairfield	5	-	South Melbourne 3
(Mike Smith 16) (Jason Polak 61)
(Steve Corica 18) (Paul Trimboli 67)
(Ufuk Talay 26) (Steve Mangos 81)
(Gary van Egmond 75)
(Jeremy Harris 78)

MF : Catlin, Colombo, Dee, Pollari, Smith, Harris, van Egmond, McCulloch,
     Talay (Casserly 79), Corica, Angelucci

SM : Mautone, Valkanis (Damianos 45), Kuzmanovic, Lucchetta, Anthopoulos,
Boutsianis (sent off 31), Polak, Petersen, Panopoulos, Trimboli,
     Mihaloglou (Mangos 32)

[Steve Corica looks set to join SV Hamburg in the off season and from his
performance tonight Hamburg have themselves a bargain. Con Boutsianis'
send off for kicking out at Harris in retaliation had little to do with
Souths capitulation, more it was symptomatic of it's effect. South Melbourne
had played in the midweek but looked more hapless than lethargic and for
all their woes still gave Marconi a fright with a rally after the hour.]

Adelaide City 2	-	Brisbane Strikers	0
(Alex Tobin 38)
(Damien Mori 74)

AC : Petkovic, Ivanovic, Tobin, Vidmar, Lozanovski (Goutzioulis 81), Gibson,
     Talladira, Foster, Melta, Hassell, Mori

BS : Bolton, Jackson (sent off 89), Hunter, Stowell, Hews, Williams, Wright,
     Phillips, Slater, S Cranney, Brown

[Brisbane coach Bruce Stowell described some of the things perpetrated on his
team as 'rape' as Adelaide City began their hunt for a top two placing which
is vital for a realistic shot at becoming champions, though Adelaide did
disprove that theory last season. A fine performance by Clint Bolton was
perhaps made more painful in the knowledge that he will leave Brisbane this
week for the World Youth Cup preparations en route to Qatar.]

Heidelberg United	2	-	Parramatta Eagles	1
(Alex Kiratzoglou 61, 85) (John Koch 68)

HU : Frangos, Scott, Karapatsos, Tsoumerakas, Koutos, Wade, Ardone, MacNicol,
     Tsolakis, Kirazoglou, Despotovski

PE : Franken, P Souris, Gwynne (Harding 85), Orlic, O'Donnell, Moffitt,
Reda (Koch 67), Ciantar, Sprod, Gunning, Brayshaw

[Despite a good win over a hapless Eagles side Heidelberg are now mathematical
certainties to end up with last place on the ladder.]

Morwell Falcons 2	-	West Adelaide 2
(Morwell win 4-3 on penalties)
(Claudio Canosa 51) (Jose Iriarte 66)
(Warren Spink 75) (Cyrille Ndongo-Keller 83)

MF : Matassa, Douglas, Canosa, Parton, Miller, Marcina, Sevin, Waddell
Stergiopoulos, Spink (Upton 93), Villani (Markovski 52)

WA : Blazincic (Giannasca 58), Hooker, Haniotis, Slager, Slifkas, Brazzale,
Alagich, Iriarte (Tsekinis 82), Cardozo, Tibaldi, Ndongo-Keller

[Matassa was Morwell's hero in the shootout as he pulled off two saves to
give Morwell only their 4th penalty win in 11 attempts. Cameroonian
Ndongo-Keller and Alagich the hapless victims of Matassa's reflexes. Oddly
the Morwell coach took Spink off with penalties almost certain. Giannasca
also saved a penalty but otherwise didn't suggest he will put Blazincic's
 hopes in jeopardy.]

Melbourne SC 0	-	Sydney United 1
					(Eric Hristodoulou 26)

MZ : Kourtis, Kuleski, Banini, Jolevski, Angelovski, Enes, Ngata, Zinni,
Karkaletsis (Lazarevski 65), Trajcevski, Tricarico (Mazzini 84)

SU : Kalac, Popovic, Stanton, Kupresak, M Babic, Naumovski (S Babic 77),
Hristodoulou, Moric, Zdrilic, Milicic, Lamond (Usalj 85)

[Sydney United not only hold onto second place with this result but are making
a serious bid on top dog status, thus salvaging some of my Sydney pride.
 Go Boys!]
