The upset of the season occured at the Croatian Sports Centre when new club Canberra
stole the show with a polished 3-1 win over a rather lacklustre Melbourne Knights. Melbourne,
the defending champions, had no answer to Canberra's set moves and height in the box.
After 14 minutes the visitors were 2-0 ahead, both from corners, both flicked on. The first
was by Paul Wade after Jason Dunn headed it on. The second was by Marko Perinovic again after
a Dunn head on.
It took a little while for Melbourne to settle down and in the 37th minute Joe Spiteri,
who was undoubtedly one of the better players, scored for the home team and lifted the
spirits of the supporters. From here on, the team tried hard to get the equalizer, but
Canberra's defence, which is getting better each match, held out.
In the 75th minute Michael Musitano received the ball down the left side and after some
giggling through the Melbourne players shot past the goal keeper at the near post with an
excellent low drive.
In defense, Canberra had both Jason Dunn and John Koch to thank as they have now shown along
the others that this team is one of the best in the air. For Melbourne, they were missing a
few players, but no excuses can be used. Canberra went to win and did so.
