South Melbourne v UTS Olympic

Round 4 Match report by David Arnold
South Melbourne v UTS Olympic

Walk from St Kilda to the ground, but if you're been paying attention you know I am unfit. It should have done me some good. Spot the SU crew manning the gates. A smile on my face as I ancticipate the obligatory freebie. Told in no ambigouous? terms to "get my f*cking ticket".

Front men awesome. Tome had two half-decent chances, took em both, a guided right-to left header into the bottom corner, courtesy of some Emerton trickery on the right. His second came after an incredible - there is no other word - sprint by Emerton from deep in his own half. Emerton receives the ball just outside the box and sends a left footer deep where Tome has to work hard for it. Great stuff.

Trimboli's first came of some awesome passing between himself, Damianos, Trimmers, Curjica, who squared it, Trimmers getting to the ball first.

Souths have 2 shots at high velocity cleared off the line from close in, Coveny speeds away on a through ball only to test the aerodynamic resistance of the no. 5.

When Tome scored his second, a lot of the gentry in the grandstand left. You have to wonder why, Southos were playing some good stuff.

Trimmer's second came after spinning on a bouncing ball from a poor clearance, the ball clearly hit his arm/directed his arm and he ran on to put it in. Strangely, no UTS player objected (from what I saw).

Emerton - I've heard he decided to spend another year here before going oseas, it's his valedictory tour, make sure you get to see it. He's only 18. Two footed (his crosses came on right and left feet respectively), strong, faster than Kanchelskis are more powerfully built. Just needs a rocket in his strong foot to complete the package. You'd expect the right flanker to carve up the defence at a Souths game to be that Macedonian Monster Lozanovski. But not today, it was Emerton's day.

I have to say I'm disappointed at Souths reverting to a 5 strong midfield. Last year it was Trimmers in the hole, but it's him and Curjica up front. Guess Ange decided to play more defensively. But still, Sydney United were a great side last season, no shame in losing away to em.
