Strikers v Glory

Round 3 report by Mick Kugelman
Brisbane Strikers v Perth Glory

An eventful game which had everything: goals, drama, injury, biff, a six yard free kick given deep into injury time, thor on his 'sparkling' machine and even a few people there to watch it all.

2-2 was probably a fair result but Perth only got their goals when Brisbane allowed them to. If the Strikers intensity had been maintained for the full 90, I suspect 2-0 would have remained the score.

Kossie seems to have these guys superfit.

Wehrmann was sensational, Willo superb, Cranney likewise. Up front Knipe showed he can trouble any defence but have to question the high balls that were pumped at him, Andy Harper won some more fans over - his hard work always unsettling the defence (and almost rewarded in what's becoming a 'typically unlucky' miss for him at one stage. Ironically the game turned against Brisbane as soon as Harps was subbed - last year it was the opposite so maybe his luck is changing?

Chay Hews though had an ordinary game and Nick Meredith seemed quiet apart from the odd 'power surge'.

Despotovski well contained though could have had one or two but for some last ditch efforts from the good guys. Markovski again showed he has the required genius but despite his well publicised regain of fitness , he really wasn't allowed to shine in a game that just seemed too fast for him.

Glory Keeper (Milosevic?) was unlucky being hammered in a couple of clashes and deserves some praise for fighting on.

Kasey's free kick over the bar seemed a waste but on reflection his aiming for top left was typical of his approach to the game rather than take his chances in a blast - only his execution let him down.

Strikers playing like they did tonight will carve many of the more 'average' EC opposition. Glory also top notch and I walked away with feeling of 'value for money' despite the obvious disappointment of not taking the 3 points.
