Glory v Sydney Utd

Round 4 report by Gerry Prewett
Perth Glory v Sydney United

Glory got off to a stunning start with a goal after only 5 minutes by Halpin, a mazy run from mid-field took Halpin to the edge of the area and he slotted the ball home. 10 minutes later Markovski doubled the score with a similar shot after making room for himself with good use of his body. Glory were playing the best football I've ever seen them play at this stage. It seemed a matter of how many goals they would run in.

However United steadied at the back and grew in confidence. The game flowed brilliantly and it was no shock when United pulled a goal back about five minutes before the break with a looping header over Malosovik.

At Half-Time the talk in the Shed was all about how Glory had allowed Sydney back into the game. The second half started in sensational style when Halpin added to his first half goal by hitting a mis-hit clearance from the keeper back over the keeper's head from about 40 yards. There was a stunned silence as the ball floated towards goal and bounced over the line and then mayhem!

United continued to push forward whenever they could and added to a very entertaining game. They twice hit the Glory bar and possibly deserved another goal for their efforts. The announcement of the attendance was a little disappointing as it was suggested that the 18,000 figure might just be reached.

Apologies to Daniel for not having a totally factual report with all the details, but hell I was getting drenched with beer in the Shed! BTW met David, Eamon and Willie Herd before the game in the Queens. Also chatted to another guy in a Bristol Rovers shirt (that's 8 I know in Perth now!).
