Australia 1 - Egypt 0

In the Dean Hegazi tribute match, the Egyptians came out like cats trapped in a bag. The high physical aspect placed into their game, no doubt pressure from their coaching staff after losing 2-0 on the weekend, took the Australians by surprise. A very close battle for the most part of the game.

Laybutt hit the crossbar with a header early on, and again at the death, which on slow replay showed bouncing over the line, but the goal was not paid. Grella joined Wehrman in the middle, and Kasey Wehrman played a fantastic game. His aggression is a slight problem at times, but simply look towards the likes of Edgar Davids, Roy Keane, Paul Ince. Wehrman needs to know exactly where to draw the line, but never ever retreat from his attitude toward the game. Wehrman has Socceroo captain written all over him. The captain on the night, Emerton, was in sparkling form. Egyptians defenders were helpless when Emerton turned it on.

The goal, again from Wehrman in the middle (this time a freekick), Hayden Foxe jumping out of the box and 1-0. This coming immediately after the Egyptian captain was sent off. The Egyptian bench, high blood pressure - heart attack candidates number 1, simply had no control of themselves. After one particular incident, coaching staff actually ran onto the field to (fairly) seperate players. Referee may have used some common sense, by not punishing the Egyptian and stirring the pot, but rules are rules.

Gold Medal here we come.
