This was the the first ever series of matches played by an Australian National Team. The three match series formed part of a fourteen match tour of New Zealand between May and July 1922. In this first 'test' match, Australia's first ever international goal was scored by William Maunder just before half-time.

The second 'test' match of the series resulted in Australia's first official draw, Wilfred Bratton scoring an equaliser midway through the first half.
