This match was added to the five game 'test series' in an attempt to recoup some of the money lost on the tour. Up until the Adelaide 'test match' 1,148 pounds had been lost. The game was billed as the series 'decider' with organised disappointed with the attendance of 8,000 expecting twice that number.
