LG Young Socceroo captain Ljubo Milicevic has led Australia to a convincing 7-0 victory over Tonga, in the second round of matches at the Oceania Qualifiers for the World Youth Cup, in the Cook Islands.
Milicevic, who opened Australia's scoreline in the first match against Samoa, repeated the effort, and then went on to record a hat-trick in the first half.
The big defender headed in from a Luke Wilkshire corner in the 12th minute, with striker Kevo Gulesserian making it 2-0 just a minute later.
Four minutes on and it was Greg Owens latching onto a pass from Wilkshire to head the ball over the keeper, while Milicevic chipped in again with a shot from close range to make it 4-0 at the 34 minute mark.
Owens scored his second three minutes later, while Milicevic notched up his first international hat-trick in the fortieth minute, to give the LG Young Socceroos a 6-0 lead at the half-time break.
Australia's only goal of the second half saw the captain again instrumental, Milicevic brought down in the penalty area, with Wilkshire converting successfully, for the 7-0 fulltime scoreline.
"The conditions played a pretty important part in the match today, with rain through the game, on top of the six inches or so that we had overnight," said coach Ange Postecoglou after the game.
"There were puddles of water everywhere, with the ball getting stuck in them, so it was a very different game to our first match.
"I felt that we were perhaps a little disappointing in front of goal, and didn't take all of the chances that we created, but again, the conditions played their part in that.
"We made nine changes to the line-up today and will do something similar for our next game against Papua New Guinea, so we can keep the boys fresh, give them all a game, and make sure we don't overwork anyone." Postecoglou concluded.
