Adelaide Sensation scored their first goals and first points of the season with a 3-1 win over Northern NSW Pride. Northern enjoyed the better start to the game, until Sensation striker Lisa De Vanna came on off the bench for an injured teammate and made an instant impact. Northern goalkeeper Zoe Betteridge received a ball to the face, but Adelaide showed no mercy, soon after netting two goals in stoppage time before the break. De Vanna scored both within one minute, a loose ball off a keeper save, and then a neat control and finish.

Pride's Katie Gill then pulled one back soon after half-time, retaining her goal a week record, and the home side once again went on the attack. Northern were then forced to play the last 20 minutes a player short when Amber Neilson was sent off for her second yellow card offence. Four minute from time, Adelaide sealed the win when Chichi May nailed a beautiful curling freekick from 30 metres.

Queensland Sting snatched a stoppage time equaliser from the penalty spot for a 1-1 draw and a vital point from the better team on the day Canberra Eclipse. Canberra had taken the early lead when Caitlin Munoz converted an Amy Wilson cross. Eclipse continued to hold the upper hand, combining well all over the park, although much of the game was played out in the middle third of the park.

Canberra failed to double their lead soon after the break from the penalty spot. Amy Wilson's first penalty attempt was saved but the referee ordered a retake. Sting goalkeeper Claire Nichols then saved the second penalty, before then making another brilliant save at point blank range on Wilson's attempt to net the rebound.

The Sting then put pressure on the Eclipse defence for the remainder and were rewarded in stoppage time when a certain goal from sub Rosemary Cusack was handballed off the line by defender Bridgette Starr. The result was a red card to Starr, and a penalty which was well struck by Zoe Nolan.

On Saturday, NSW Sapphires created a new all-time national league record with their 10-0 demolition of Victoria Vision, whilst also claiming the outright lead.

Sapphires coach Allan Bourke had served warning to his team not to take Vision lightly, in reference to their clash last season when underdogs Victoria almost snatched a stoppage-time winner before NSW scored a penalty in the very next minute to equalise at 2-2. Today, the win was never in doubt when the Sapphires were ahead by three goals within the opening fifteen minutes.

Victoria's day took an immediate turn for the worse when, a couple of minutes into play, Young Matildas rep Caroline Saville was stretchered off following a forceful blow to the head from a Sapphires shot.

Kelly Golebiowski opened the home team's account in the 6th minute with a simple header to convert a corner kick. Joanne Peters soon doubled the lead, heading into an open goal after a neat Alicia Cavanagh chip over the keeper. Two minutes later, a shot from Taryn Rockall was miscleared by the Vision defence, allowing the league's leading goalscorer Cavanagh in to tap home for a 3-0 scoreline.

The Sapphires scored another four in the ten minutes before half-time to take a 7-0 lead. Defender Lisa Warrener nailed her shot after a corner kick caused more problems for the visitors, before Cavanagh scored her second for the day, set up by a Peters cutback from the left byline. Livewire left midfielder Heather Garriock then posted a double within two minutes, first with a fantastic long-range drive from wide on the left. In stoppage time Garriock then had an easy touch in to convert a cross from the right.

Goal number eight was a Golebiowski strike from just inside the left edge of the 18-yard box. Substitute Nicole Kimber then scored her first ever WNSL goal with a stunner from 30 metres out, just nine minutes after coming off the bench.

Over the five previous seasons, the record winning margin was a 9-0 victory by Canberra Eclipse over Northern NSW Horizon, set in Newcastle in February 1999. That was surpassed today when Golebiowski completed her hattrick from close range after a neat lob from Michelle Carney.
