NSW Sapphires defeated Canberra Eclipse 4-1 to quash the
Canberrans' undefeated run. However, the game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests
and play see-sawed throughout the entertaining contest. The Sapphires soon took the lead,
an unmarked Heather Garriock placing her angled shot past the keeper. NSW went two ahead
just three minutes later, top scorer Alicia Cavanagh finishing off a neat move.
Canberra defender Simone Borucinski cleared another off the goal-line, and this seemed to spark a strong Canberra period of play. Eclipse pulled a goal back six minutes later when Caitlin Munoz beat a hesitant keeper to a long ball and headed home. NSW then lifted and scored their third on the stroke of half-time, Lisa Warrener helping over the line a Taryn Rockall curling corner kick. Midway into the second half, Eclipse surged back and Munoz was twice very unlucky not to score. But against the run of play, NSW were awarded a penalty for a handball and Taryn Rockall's conversion put the game beyond Canberra's reach.

With the real race now being for second place, Adelaide
Sensation scored a very valuable 1-0 upset win over Queensland Sting to stand within one
point of second spot. The Sting enjoyed a good percentage of possession but weren't able
to convert that into enough danger on the opposition goal. Queensland's Zoe Nolan hit the
post and Natalie Thomas was just wide, whilst Adelaide's Cheryl Salisbury and Chichi May
came closest in the first half.
The deadlock was broken on the hour when a Sensation corner was flicked on by Stacey Stocco which the keeper could only parry upwards, allowing Salisbury to touch it in over the goal-line. Queensland's run for the rest of the game came to no avail and their undefeated record was broken.

With a player sent off in the first half, Northern NSW
Pride held on to draw 2-2 against Victoria Vision in today's WNSL Round Four clash between
the two bottom-placed teams.
Both sides in search of their first point for the season made for an emotion-charged clash in Melbourne, the home side needing to refocus after a demoralising 10-0 defeat last week, and Northern without their suspended captain and playmaker Amber Neilson. The strong wind certainly played its part in the flow of the game, and Northern, with the wind in the first half, took the early advantage. A Pride corner kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble and Lauren Colthorpe managed to stick the ball home from close range for her first ever WNSL goal. Play was fairly even throughout the rest of the first half however, both teams with chances although nothing clear cut. Even after Rose Dunne's ejection on the half-hour mark for an off the ball incident, Northern still held their own and produced some constructive play. Vision welcomed the wind advantage after the break and immediately went on the attack. They were rewarded two minutes after the restart with a well-struck 30 metre attempt from Katrina Smith which flew over the keeper's head. The goal was Victoria's first for the season and Smith's first in this her rookie season. Northern regained the lead just three minutes later on the break, Hayley Crawford nailing her strike from 15 metres. Victoria then held the upper hand for the remainder, creating several opportunities but unable to hit the target. Selin Kuralay came closest when released by a Smith through ball, but her 25 metre drive hit the post and went out. Another long range effort from Smith flew just over the crossbar. Finally, with nine minutes to go, Vision drew back level with a neat build-up from the back finished by Leigh Terek with a fantastic rocket from 35 metres high into the back of the net.
