Canberra Eclipse and Adelaide Sensation shared the points in a 1-1 draw to kick off today's action in the scorching afternoon heat. Canberra had three early chances including a shot cleared off the line. But from then till halftime, Adelaide's Lisa De Vanna caused persistent headaches for the Eclipse defence with her lightning speed and skill. However, goalkeeper Amy Beattie met the challenge with three great saves.

After the break, play fizzled in the heat although Adelaide were still the more dangerous in attack. On the hour mark, Canberra squandered their chance to snatch the lead when former South Australian Kristyn Swaffer's penalty kick was saved by keeper Leanne Trimboli.

It was Adelaide who broke the deadlock in the 75th minute, De Vanna's strike finding its way into goal despite a defender's attempt to clear off the line. The goal sparked some life back into the game and Eclipse equalised 2 minutes later, Swaffer making up for her earlier miss with a cracking freekick. Adelaide almost snared the winner in stoppage time, Stacey Stocco's 30 metre effort hitting the crossbar.

Goal : Ashley Wilson 48
NSW Sapphires got out of jail after a disappointing display, scoring two late goals to defeat a revitalised Northern NSW Pride 2-1. Northern created the better opportunities throughout whilst NSW appeared sluggish. Pride were unlucky not to claim the lead in what ended up a scoreless first half.

Northern were finally rewarded three minutes after the break, Ashley Wilson released with a neat ball and slotting home.

Then with 5 minutes remaining, NSW were awarded a penalty and Anissa Tann converted from the spot. Two minutes later, Northern Pride watched all their good work disappear when Danielle Small's freekick found its way through a crowded goalmouth and the clutches of the keeper and into the back of the net.

Queensland Sting came away with a 2-0 win but were made to work hard in the first half by a plucky Victoria Vision, the depleted southerners taking the game to the clear favourites and showing some promising patches of play. Queensland gradually wore down their opponent and finished the half with some good chances, but the teams went in at the break with no goals.

Sting's Heather Garriock frequently supplied quality crosses from the left, and 16 minutes into the second half, one such pinpoint ball resulted in a goal, Bryony Duus making no mistake from right in front. Victoria never gave up the fight but the Queenslanders sealed a deserved victory in the 76th minute, captain Kate McShea cutting inside her defender and curling her shot on the turn from the edge of the box.
