Canberra Eclipse tonight finally found their scoring boots following a worrying two from the previous six matches and really took the game to equal league favourites NSW Sapphires, the thriller ending in a 3-3 draw. The home side sent their fans into a frenzy, claiming the two-goal lead within the opening 20 minutes and showed spirit to reclaim the lead before halftime after NSW had fought back to equalise. A Sapphires leveller early in the second half made for an enthralling battle but neither was able to break through for the prized winner.

After a fairly even opening stanza, Eclipse showed their intent with the first goal in the 14th minute. A Jenna Maciejewski through ball saw Amy Chapman with marker in tow just win the race ahead of the outrushing goalkeeper, managing to sneak in the shot before the challenge into the unattended goal. Jenna Maciejewski was again the provider six minutes later, slipping a great ball across the face of goal which was clinically finished by Caitlin Munoz.

Ten minutes later, Jenna Maciejewski suffered an unfortunate asthma attack which forced her out of the game, the team losing some of that penetration in attack. On the half hour, Sapphires pulled one back with a stunning cracker from 25 metres on the right by Kylie Ledbrook. Then it was 2-2 seven minutes later, Catherine Cannuli finding the target from almost the same spot with a thumping direct freekick.

Eclipse replied by surging back into attack with good chances to both Chapman and Munoz before they were rewarded with goal number three in the 44th minute. The chase was on between the goalkeeper, Chapman and a defender to reach a dangerous through ball, the defender getting there first but under pressure knocking it into her own net for an own goal.

Three minutes after the restart, NSW levelled at 3-3 when a shot at goal was stopped dead on the goalline by Canberra defender Cian Maciejewski but couldn't recover to clear the ball leaving Cannuli the simplest job of hitting the ball into the back of the net.

Both teams continued to create chances, Cannuli firing in the shots before her 82nd minute direct freekick from the right edge of the 18-yard box was cleared off the line by Canberra's Tal Karp. Two minutes later, drama at the other end when Peita-Claire Hepperlin's long-range drive was cleared off the line by Danielle Brogan at full stretch, and amidst the ensuing scramble, Eclipse had two more pops at goal with one again saved by Brogan.

Sapphires' Ledbrook watched her attempt hit the bottom of the post, before Eclipse were awarded a freekick on the edge of the 18-yard box after a goalkeeper foul but the shot was charged down by a defender. Ledbrook had the last try of the game in stoppage time, but her strike was well taken by goalkeeper Lisa Hartley.

In the first match of the day, Adelaide Sensation emerged 3-1 victors over Northern NSW Pride. Adelaide took the early lead but Northern gradually settled into the game and controlled play for the last 20 minutes of the first half and equalised. Sensation broke the deadlock with a pair of goals midway through the second half to claim victory.

Ten minutes into the game, Adelaide struck first blood with a rocket of a direct freekick from the boot of Leanne Slater on the left edge of the 18-yard box, the ball finding the back of the net despite the attempted save by the keeper. Eight minutes later, a Northern freekick from a similar position on the right saw Danielle Small's dipping shot fly just over the crossbar.

Northern celebrated the leveller in the 28th minute with a great goal by Hayley Crawford who was released behind the defence with a ball through the centre. The striker flicked the ball up over the outcoming keeper and sidefooted the shot back from outside the left post as defenders chased back in vain.

The goal was soon followed by a quick succession of Pride chances, Katie Gill unluckiest when her great drive was tipped over by keeper Leanne Gubbins. The ensuing corner rebounded off a defender toward goal before being cleared off the line.

After the break, Adelaide looked the more dangerous on goal and in the 68th minute reclaimed the lead. Lisa De Vanna, relatively quiet in the first half, shrugged off two defenders and placed a low shot past the goalkeeper into the far corner. Six minutes later, De Vanna struck again, this time released with a pinpoint ball from Stacey Stocco behind the last defender and scored from 15 metres for a 3-1 scoreline.

De Vanna however failed to claim her hattrick, missing a penalty in the dying minutes, the ball hit straight to the keeper.

Reigning champions Queensland Sting produced another bagful of goals, Victoria Vision this time the victim of a 7-0 drubbing. Sting completely dominated the match from start to finish, too experienced and classy for their opponents, running away to a five-goal lead by halftime.

April Mann opened the account for Queensland in the 4th minute, a cross from the left finding the striker completely unmarked in front of goal for an easy finish. Mann scored again just two minutes later, running at goal and converting the opportunity.

Midway through the half came Sting's third goal when a corner kick was headed out by the defence, falling nicely for defender Pam Grant to run in for a full-blooded drive from 22 metres leaving the keeper no chance. On the half hour, midfielder Alicia Ferguson took the tally to four, dribbling past one defender and falling as she got the shot away into the top corner of goal. Mann celebrated her hattrick four minutes before the break, her shot from 12 metres bobbling in, hitting the far post before finding its way over the line for Sting to go in with a five-goal lead.

The second half was not nearly as lively on goal but Queensland still maintained full control. Defender Karla Reuter was next to post her name on the scoresheet with a fantastic direct freekick from 21 metres, a stinging drive into the top of the net in the 58th minute. Five minutes later Queensland were awarded a penalty, but Sarah Garven's spot kick was well saved by keeper Melissa Barbieri, diving to her left. Whilst still prone on the ground, Barbieri then saved a drive by Kim Carroll. The ball fell nicely for Jessica Mitchell to drive home from 15 metres on the left inside the far post.

Vision had a rare chance of a consolation late in the game but Louisa Bisby's sharp header flew straight at the keeper.
