Adelaide Sensation turned the tables on Canberra Eclipse with a 2-1 win tonight in WNSL Round Four action in Adelaide, avenging their loss to the same team last week, to gain their first win for the season.

The result lifts the young and inexperienced Sensation into second place on the ladder, at least until the weekend's matches.

Adelaide substitute Katrina Bexis was the hero in quite a free-flowing match, snatching a deserved win in the final minute of play after Canberra had levelled with twelve minutes remaining.

Sensation enjoyed full control of the play throughout the first half in terms of possession, and kept their opponent from making any meaningful attacks. Although themselves not creating a lot of chances on goal, Adelaide did take the lead in the 18th minute, when a cross from Christina Papageorgiou on the left found Vicki Balomenos in the 6-yard box who made no mistake with the volley. It was the team's first goal for the season.

Balomenos was on the end of a through-ball six minutes later, but her shot flew over, before teammate Chichi May watched her freekick escape the goalkeeper's clutches, but was recovered.

The second half was a greater spectacle and more evenly contested overall. Sensation still held the upper hand for the start of the period, and were unlucky when May struck the crossbar with her shot eight minutes after resumption. A couple of minutes later, Canberra had their first clear opportunity when Kim Channing's attempt went just wide.

From around the hour mark, Canberra lifted their game to dominate for a solid twenty minute span. The best chances fell to Korri Chiavannacoopt whose chip was too high, and a through ball for Ellie Brush was spilt by the goalkeeper but the shot went wide.

Adelaide's Danielle Barbiero had a chance from in front, before the visitors equalised in the 78th minute. Former Sensation player Stacey Stocco provided the through-ball for Channing, and despite pressure from a defender, the striker managed to lob the goalkeeper in fine style.

But not content to share the points, Adelaide made a last-ditch effort in the final moments of the game. May had the keeper beaten but her effort sailed just over, before the winner was scored half a minute later. Bexis, from the right of goal, saw an opening and tried her luck with a well-executed lob over the keeper, into the far corner of goal, her first ever WNSL goal.

Adelaide have no further games this weekend, whilst Canberra now travel on to Perth for a Sunday clash against the new team.
