Northern NSW Pride, although clear favourites, for
the second time in five days were tested by the plucky Adelaide Sensation
outfit, and again only found the winner late in the game for a 2-1 victory.
Although dominant for much of the game and deserving of the win in what was a
physical encounter, the deciding goal came by way of an own goal with five
minutes remaining.
Sensation pushed into attack early and Christina Papageorgiou went just wide with a strike from 35 metres in the 10th minute. Just two minutes later, the midfielder was the provider with a cross from the left which was tapped in by Stacey Day, the youngster also the early scorer against Northern last weekend. From then on, Pride dominated the first half, Joanne Peters getting herself in position for several shots on goal, before finding the equaliser in the 21st minute. A through-ball from the productive Lauren Colthorpe released Peters behind the defence who drove the ball into the back of the net. Northern were then unlucky not to take the lead in the last five minutes before the break, Lindsey Jones denied twice by fantastic saves by Adelaide keeper Emma Wirkus. Peters went just wide of the mark early after resumption, before Adelaide pushed forward into attack during the next quarter-hour, Vicki Balomenos, Danielle Barbiero, and Day each with chances. The tide then turned back and Pride reasserted their authority on proceedings, but Meegan Shepherd, Ashley Wilson, Gemma O'Toole, and Kate Gill were unable to break the deadlock. Put in with a through-ball, Peters had the best chance, the goalkeeper spilling the first attempt but Peters going just wide with the second from the loose ball. Adelaide had the chance to snatch a goal when Chichi May's freekick was headed over by Papageorgiou, before the winning goal came two minutes later at the other end. A handball decision gave Northern a freekick, and a dangerous ball in by Peters was inadvertently headed in by May into her own goal.

In Melbourne, Queensland Sting were comfortable 3-0
winners over Victoria Vision, all three goals coming in the first half. The
first versus last contest showed the difference in class between the two sides,
particularly in the first stanza.
Sting went ahead within seven minutes from an error in the Victorian defence, under early pressure. A backpass was met by a poor clearance by the Vision goalkeeper, the ball going straight to Queensland's Krystina Walker who headed the ball back in from the left for Selin Kuralay to score against her old team from 8 metres. Soon after, Sting's Pam Grant was denied with an excellent save by keeper Melissa Barbieri, as the 'maroon' wave of attack placed Victoria under unrelenting pressure. A low driven cross from the right set up Queensland's second goal on the half hour mark, the lively Jessica Mitchell putting her name on the scoresheet. The lead stretched to three just eight minutes later, Mitchell scoring her second after bringing down a Lana Harch cross with beautiful control and making no mistake with the finish. Victoria's best chance for the half came was from a corner but Anthea Vardakas blazed her shot wide. The second half was less enthralling and a more even affair played out more in the middle third of the park. Victoria had a good chance when Sarah Groenewald was sent clean through one-on-one, but elected to drive her shot when an early chip seemed the better option. Queensland's Mitchell was denied her hattrick by a Barbieri save, before a Kate McShea long range effort hit the crossbar.

In Canberra, NSW Sapphires came away with the three
points in a 1-0 victory over Canberra Eclipse, to record their second win in a
row for the first time this season and move into outright third spot.
Sapphires had the better of a first half marred by howling winds, dominating possession and with the better chances on goal, before the home side came more into the contest in a tight second period. NSW defender Lisa Gilbert had the best of her team's chances in the first half, all headers, the closest being in the 16th minute when she got on the end of a curling cross to the far post ahead of her opponent but her shot hit the upright and flew out. The deciding goal was scored by Sapphires five minutes after the break, an inviting Taryn Rockall freekick from the left picking out Michelle Carney who finished in clinical fashion. The goal spurred Eclipse into action who produced a couple of good chances for the equaliser but without reward. The 61st minute saw Amy Chapman feed a great little ball through to put Kim Channing in behind the defence but her shot flew just wide. Channing was the target from a long ball from deep in the 74th minute and when the keeper miscued her intercept, Channing had little time to stick her leg out for a shot as the keeper again challenged but the lobbed effort from the left skewed wide of the far post.
