In Newcastle this afternoon, Northern NSW Pride emerged with the six-goal victory over Canberra Eclipse in their bid to host the grandfinal. However, in a game where the mission was to score as many goals as possible, Northern went in at halftime with nil goals to their name, before finally surging forward in the second half.

After a reasonably dull first half, Pride finally broke the deadlock on the hour mark and went on to score all six goals in the space of twenty minutes.

Canberra had the first chance on goal inside two minutes of play when a dangerous cross was spilt by the keeper but the loose ball did not fall in their favour. For the remainder of the contest, Eclipse resorted to shooting from distance, and seemed content to sit back and try to create on the counterattack. Although dominating possession in the first half, Northern had trouble breaking through the opposition defence, their best chance a Joanne Peters miss from 12 metres.

The half time decision to swap Peters to the forward line and drop Elizabeth Kermode into midfield seemed to provide the necessary turnaround in the Northern attack. In the 60th minute, Pride opened their account when an Ashley Wilson through-ball released Kate Gill who rounded the keeper and slotted home. A similar scenario set up by Meegan Shepherd was finished by Peters five minutes later.

Goal number three was scored in the 70th minute, Peters' strike thumping against the crossbar and bouncing downwards, and Gill was on hand to tap the rebound over the goalline. After a lean second half to the season, Gill's second goal for the day extends her tally as league top goalscorer to thirteen for the season.

Three more goals in the space of four minutes was to add to Canberra's demise. Emma Howes scored in the 76th minute, beating one marker before thumping the ball into the top far corner of goal. Peters scored her second for the game, slotting in at the back post, before Lauren Colthorpe scored goal number six, beating two defenders before her long range effort hit both posts and bounced in.

In Brisbane, Queensland Sting ended up defeating Adelaide Sensation by the very same scoreline. With the later kickoff time, Queensland knew they had to win by two clear goals to claim hosting rights, and like Northern, finished with their biggest winning margin for the season.

Adelaide midfielder Christina Papageorgiou was a late scratching to the starting lineup after suffering an injury in an accident before the game, but the visitors still took the game to their more fancied opponents for the opening 15 minutes, without reward.

Sting then took the lead in the 20th minute and never looked back, dishing out four goals in the first half. Selin Kuralay set things rolling, converting a short corner from the right. Two minutes later, Sasha McDonnell missed an open goal, before the lead was doubled on the half-hour, Jessica Mitchell's shot causing an own goal amongst a goalmouth scramble.

Four minutes later, Adelaide were down a player whilst Vicki Balomenos received treatment on the sideline, and Sting stretched their lead further. A Mitchell raid up the left flank and cutback was finished off by McDonnell. The two sides went in at 4-0 when a Mitchell cross resulted in several players peppering the ball and subsequent rebounds at goal, when finally Kate McShea saved the ball going out over the byline for McDonnell to slot home.

Suffering a further injury in the first half, Adelaide had no answers to stop the Sting wave of attack and ten minutes into the second half, Mitchell scored from a Lana Harch cross from the right. McDonnell then celebrated a hattrick in the 66th minute. A long kickout from Queensland keeper Joanne Buckley was miscued in the air by an Adelaide defender which fell nicely at the young striker's feet and she made no mistake with the gifted ball.

4 - 0 Victoria Vision

In Sydney, NSW Sapphires finished off the season with a fourth consecutive victory, soundly defeating Victoria Vision 4-0.

A massive thunderstorm before kickoff made for a heavy pitch but the conditions didn't seem to affect the NSW attack from creating numerous chances on goal. Good lead-up work by Taryn Rockall and Kylie Ledbrook put Michelle Carney in behind the defence but she was unable to convert the one-on-one chance in the 9th minute. Shortly after, a Rockall cross was fumbled by the keeper but Ledbrook sent the ball high from the edge of the penalty area.

Vision goalkeeper Antoniette Santacaterina, making a rare appearance following an injury to international keeper Melissa Barbieri, made a diving save to intercept a Rockall cutback and deny Renee Cartwright the shot, and later stopped a Katie Hilder long range attempt, tipping the ball around the post.

Victoria's best chance in attack saw Leigh Terek and Belinda Pannella two on one but the pair was unable to fashion a goal, and soon after, it was the home side who finally took the lead. A foul on Michelle Carney in the box saw Sapphires awarded a penalty, and Rockall struck hard to the left giving the keeper no chance.

Vision continued to battle hard but were unable to prevent further goals from the Sapphires' flowing attack. The lead was doubled seven minutes into the second stanza from an own goal when a Victorian defender, running back toward goal, tried to clear a Carney cross aimed for substitute Leena Khamis but it came off her leg and into her own net.

In the 63rd minute, Carney was the recipient of a Rockall through-ball which she finished in clinical style inside the far post to take the score to 3-0. Eight minutes later, Rockall beat the offside trap to collect a Ledbrook through-ball and her strike went in at the near post despite the attempted fingertip save by Santacaterina.
