The Young Matildas concluded their AFC U-19 Women’s Championship campaign with a 2-1 win overnight against Myanmar in Chongqing, China.
Australia's hopes of qualification for the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup had already been ended on Tuesday with the Young Matildas suffering a controversial 2-1 loss to reigning world champions DPR Korea.
The Young Matildas were made to work hard against a defensive but well-organised Myanmar who took the lead against the run of play through a goal after 32 minutes from Mu Lwin Mu.
Australia equalised just a minute later through Ashleigh Connor, and scored the winner soon after half time with a goal from Kyah Simon.
DPR Korea defeated Japan 3-1 in the group match with both teams progressing to the semi finals where they will be joined by host nation China and the Korean Republic. The top three nations will represent Asia at the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
