Note: The format of the 1963 Dockerty Cup was the same as for 1962. The top 8 teams from the State League were seeded to play the bottom 4 of the State League and the Division 1 teams.
Due to the scheduling of the Australia Cup elimination matches, which involved the top four Victorian clubs, the Dockerty Cup was condensed into 16 days.
Clubs which did not qualify for the Dockerty Cup played in the Federation Cup.
