Notes regarding the 2021 Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria season

After the abandonment of the 2020 Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria season, the 2021 season proved to be an exercise in interruption.

The fourth lockdown in Victoria owing to the COVID-19 global pandemic occurred between May 28 and June 10 and resulted in the suspension of Rounds 14, 15 and 16 which were rescheduled to the weekends of August 13-14, September 3-5 and September 12 respectively. Competition resumed on June 18, with Rounds 17-20 concluded before the fifth lockown was announced on July 16. Rounds 21 and 22 were postponed before restrictions were eased on July 28. Round 23 resumed and concluded on July 30-August 1, but the sixth and final lockdown was announced the following week on August 6, which ultimately lasted 77 days through to October 21.

Football Victoria ultimately cancelled the Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria season on September 3 and announced the season outcomes below.

* No relegation
* No promotion
* No Champion, Premier or Runners-up declared
* No Best and Fairest or Top Goalscorer awards declared
* No Finals Series where applicable

Avondale, who were seven points clear at the top of the table issued legal proceedings against Football Victoria, seeking to be crowned Premiers for the 2021 Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria competition. Football Victoria rejected Avondale’s position and both parties engaged qualified and senior representation in the proceedings, which included mediation. The outcome of those proceedings is included below.

The outcome of a mediated settlement, is a bespoke, one-off solution where the results of the relevant fifty-six 2022 Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria matches will also be applied to the unplayed matches from the 2021 Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria Season, as they fall during the 26 Rounds in 2022. This will allow the Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria team finishing on top of the 2021 Ladder to be crowned 2021 Premiers.

Thus, for the first time in the history of any competition under the auspice of Football Victoria, matches played in a subsequent season were constituted as relevant to the outcome of an abandoned season. This is the conclusion to the 2021 Men's National Premier Leagues Victoria Season once the fifty-six matches were completed in 2022.
