After the abandonment of the 2020 Victorian Men’s State League season, the 2021 season proved to be an exercise in interruption.

The fourth lockdown in Victoria owing to the COVID-19 global pandemic occurred between May 28 and June 10 and resulted in the suspension of Rounds 10 and 11 which were rescheduled to the weekends of September 11-12 and August 14-15 respectively. Competition resumed on June 18, with Rounds 12-15 concluded before the fifth lockown was announced on July 16. Rounds 16 and 17 were postponed before restrictions were eased on July 28. Round 18 resumed and concluded on July 30-31, but the sixth and final lockdown was announced the following week on August 6, which ultimately lasted 77 days through to October 21.
