Notes: The third Australia Cup tournament had a change of sponsor with Italian airline Alitalia taking over. The four leading teams in Sydney (NSW), Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia and South Australia qualified automatically playing a series of local elimination matches while the qualified clubs from Australian Capital Territory and Northern New South Wales joined these preliminary matches to bring the number down to eight in the Quarter Finals. Western Australia' qualifer came from the final of their Top Four Cup. Tasmania' four included three from the Division One South and one club from the Division One North West.
